The entrance to the New England Peace Pagoda complex off Cave Hill Road in Leverett. The sign on the left is for a Cambodian temple also on the property. (All photos taken Christmas, 2007, Mark E. Rondeau)

The New England Peace Pagoda bears striking similaries and striking differences from the Grafton Peace Pagoda.

An obelisk between the pagoda and the temple — very similar to the obelisk in Grafton.

The Cambodian temple on the grounds of the New England Peace Pagoda. I made my way over a very icy parking lot to this temple, thinking it was the one for Nipponzan Myohoji order that builds peace pagodas and marches and fasts for peace. Inside, I got a nice welcome and learned that the two elderly gentlemen, young woman, and two monks present were Cambodians. However, it was not until later that I learned that this isn't the Nipponzan Myohoji temple. So I'm still not sure where on the grounds it is located.

The new temple building a few yards from the pagoda. A sign near the temple when I visited indicated that more money was needed for it to be completed and occupied.

The Buddha statue set into the front of the temple. Much different from the Buddha in the Grafton pagoda. Three more Buddha figures are set around the New England Peace Pagoda, obviously illustrating scenes from his life.

Another scene set into the pagoda. I can only conjecture what's going on here.

A fourth scene inset into the pagoda.
